Mechanical/physical devices for easier living with incapacity

Lakeland Pot Stirrer

If you're cooking recipes that need constant stirring, especially over a long period, these devices can be very helpful. Switch on and leave them to do the work. Group member used similar device from different brand (no longer available) and found it very helpful, especially for making sauces. This one has two speeds, making it more versatile than the one actually tested. There are several brands available but they all seem to attract similar ratings, regardless of price.

Three speed automatic stirrer for use in open pans. Vibrates and moves around the pan, stirring as it goes. You do need a very level hob otherwise it will stay at one end! Variant versions are available.

Very effective for peeling potatoes and apples (but not much else). It creates a ridged effect due to its action. Fairly straightforward and reliable. Blades require periodic changing.

This battery-operated mechanical jar opener is an excellent accessory if you want to avoid the strain of removing lids yourself. Extensively used by a group member, it has never failed yet to open a lid however firmly in place. However, they sometimes need to be switched on and off a few times to get them to work. Effective but slightly erratic. Still good value for what you get at the price.

This piece of equipment was recommended by a group member after a discussion about chairs. Someone was thinking of spending a lot of money on a comfortable, supportive chair. It was suggested that simply by applying one of these lumbar rolls to an existing chair, the same effect could be achieved for a fraction of the price. They are inexpensive so maybe worth a try.

Lightweight and easy to carry in small bag provided. Provides an immediate seat when needed. Downside is that it's obviously not that stable as it's effectively a one legged chair. Also the length isn't adjustable so you need to be the correct height for the stick.
Otherwise okay

Pain Relief Devices

Any pieces of kit used by group members for pain relief

We all know that heat can be useful in reducing pain. People use various means of delivering this to the affected area of the body, sometimes microwaveable beanbags, sometimes hot water bottles. This particular type of hot water bottle has the advantage of being very long which means you can cover a bigger area (such as a leg) or even wrap it round somewhere that hurts. Used and recommended by group members. Other models are available such as those made by Yuyu.
